About the Book Primary objective of the book were to draw the sustainable attention of scholars to the unknown realms of local self governance. The present book is designed in eleven chapters that deal with the origin and development of local self-governance in the pre- and post-independent India. This book also examines intra-tier local government relationships in the context of planning, responsibilities and implementation at grass root level. Author hope to sensitize the readers in general and motivate the researchers in particular to undertake fresh proposals developing new tips of local administration and grass root development. About the Book Priyaka Deshmukh is a Senior Research Fellow in the School of Global Studies, University of Sussex. She holds a Ph.D. from the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex. She has twenty years of research and consultancy experience in South Asia and Africa with international and national research institutes, donors and NGOs, covering policy research with a particular focus on rural-urban migration and social protection policy in urban areas. Her recent work has focused on the links between migration and climate change by examining the role of remittances in improving resilience and the links between adaptive social protection and migration.
