Udhampur District is one of the largest district among the 6 districts of Jammu Province of Jammu & Kashmir State, covering an area of 4550 km2 with altitude ranging from 300 2800 ma. m.s.l. and average annual rainfall of 1550 mm. There is no comprehensive account on the flora of Udhampur District except the list of trees for the Kashmir and Jammu Forest Circles of Jammu & Kashmir State by Lambart (1933), and scanty information on the flora of Trikuta Hills by Kapur & Sarin (1989). The Flora of Udhampur deals with systematic analysis of 807 species belonging to 495 genera distributed over 119 families. Details such as habit, vernacular names, flowering and fruiting time, ecological notes have been provided. Index to scientific nam es, synonyms and vernacular names have been appended for ready reference.
