ABOUT THE BOOK This book examines history and growth of two decades of sports leagues which is now a flourishing scene in India. It was with the 2008 born IPL (Indian Premier League) for cricket that sports league business has become an accepted form of entertainment. This book outlines status of various sports leagues and traces their journey from inception in order to understand evolution and development of league business. This book apart from documenting the growth of league business in India provides cross-sectional outline about sports, media, finance and management. In Indian sports market, leagues are providing entertainment to viewers, content and money for sponsors and media business and employment for sports as well as media professionals. The available material on this subject, at the moment, is in the form of popular articles and journal papers. The book uses secondary sources with appropriate citations yet provides analysis about sports league arena. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Mira K Desai is Professor and Head at the University Department of Extension & Communication, S.N.D.T. Women's University, Mumbai which she joined in July 1998 as a full-timer. She is also an Associate Dean Faculty of Science and Technology of SNDTWU since 2018. She started her professional career as Social Researcher with DECU/ISRO and eventually worked at EMRC Ahmedabad and Mahila Samakhya Gujarat prior to joining SNDTWU in 1997 as a Visiting Faculty. She has worked for print media (reporting for TOI Ahmedabad), television production (researcher, scriptwriter and anchor), Internet (blogger as well as content provider), and alternate media (newsletter editor and documentary filmmaker) environments.
