About The Author:- Dineshchandra Sen born in Manikganj, now in Bangladesh, was instrumental in salvaging lost works of Bengali folk music and folk literature. When he was a professor in the Calcutta University he was appointed to compile and edit the collected Ballads from different parts of Bengal. The British Government had adorned him with the ‘Rai Bahadur’ title in 1921 and with D. Litt by the Calcutta University in recognition of pioneering work in this field. His publications includes The Folk Literature of Bengal, Mymensingh Geetika, Bengali Ramayan, Chaitanya and his age and so on. Introduction by Dr. Sila Basak, Ph.D., D.Lit., FRAS (London), Born in Kolkata, 1947, Working as an academic attached to the Department of Folklore and language studies with various Universities. She is also associated with the training and research programmes in Folkloristics of the Asiatic Society, Kolkata.
