Eastern Bengal Ballads are a collection of narrative poems (which were to be sung in the rural regions of different districts of Bengal) ranging from 16th to the 19th century. Possessing great literary and historical significance, they also throw much light on the social and cultural history of that part of Bengal, and also serve as material for history of the rise and development of Bengali people. These ballads were composed straight from the unsophisticated people’s heart. About The Author:- Dineshchandra Sen born in Manikganj, now in Bangladesh, was instrumental in salvaging lost works of Bengali folk music and folk literature. When he was a professor in the Calcutta University he was appointed to compile and edit the collected Ballads from different parts of Bengal. The British Government had adorned him with the ‘Rai Bahadur’ title in 1921 and with D. Litt by the Calcutta University in recognition of pioneering work in this field.
