About the Book:-All authorities agree that India is one of the earliest civilised countries in the world. It has been established by the researches of Philosophy, for history which is comparatively a modern idea does not lead us to those times of old that the ancient Hindus were not the aborigines of the country. A colony of the Aryans, be their country Ariana or some other place in central Asia, came by the pass of the Hindu Kush, and first settled themselves in the land which is bounded on the west by the River Kabul and on the east by River Indus. By the the laps of time the society was formed into a civil society. The knowledge of ancient history of a country gives an impetus to the intellectual movement and accelerates the progress of its notion. The past must teach the present and the present should elucidate the past. About the Author:-Nundolal Dey , of the Bengal Judicial service, member of the Asiatic Society of Bengal and Author of the Geographical dictionary of ancient and medival India. The present work was originally published by me under the pseudonym of Una in a series of articles in the Bengal Magazine of 1877 and 1878.
