About the Book :-The issue of this volume to the public at the present juncture, when the problem of the future of the Empire is receiving the special attention of Imperial statesmen, calls for no apology. Never was there a time when the fullest information in regard to all component parts of the vast territories that owe allegiance to the British Crown was more needed; never was there an occasion which more insistently called for the production of the amplest material which may throw a light on the complex questions of commercial polity, the supreme importance of which has been so abundantly demonstrated in the Great War. This large commemorative book on east India is an invaluable source of information for the scholar and the interested reader alike. The reader will find fascinating chapters on the early and later history of Bengal; the native races; flora and fauna; tea; indigo; notes on the states of Cooch Behar, Tripura, and Manipur; horse racing; industries. There are short accounts of many business establishments extant at the time of the compilation of the book. There are hundreds of century-old photographs in this book. This book has been considered by academicians and scholars of great significance and value to literature.
