This monograph gives a comprehensive account of various groups of invertebrate fossils, viz. Foraminiferida, Ostracoda, Mollusca, Anthozoa and Bryozoa, from the uppermost Cretaceous lower Palaeogene sediments represented by the Kakara Subathu succession of the Himalayan foothills belt. It identifies stratigraphically important fossils for precise biostratigraphic correlation. The authors have recognized several faunal communities in the Kakara Subathu succession and their study has led to interpretation of paleoecology and palaeobiogeography during the latest Cretaceousearly Palaeogene times.
