About the author reveals that 'A history of the Deccan area which, in this work, confines itself to between the Narbada, the Mahanadi the Nilgiri hills and the Arabain Sea. The scope of this work stretches between the reigns of Ashoka (261 B.C.) to that of Pulakesin II (610 A.D.). The student, who wishes to know what was the History of the Deccan between 261 B.C. and 610 A.D., does not know what books to consult. This history is lost in obscurity. Still it is not the documents that are wanting for the dynasty of the Kadambas alone, we have about thirty copper-plates. We have also plenty of information about the Pallavas and the Gangas. Why then is the chronology of these dynasties so mysterious? The author thought that what was wanted most at the present time was to arrange the parts and make a whole work of it. He thought that a complete and attentive study of all the documents we actually possess will throw a light on the darkness, bring order out of chaos and, in short, give birth to, what we have not had up to the present book. This book was first published in 1920. About the Jouveau-Dubreuil (1885–1945) was a French archaeologist who specialized in Southern India. He was the first discoverer of artifacts at Nagarjunakonda in Andhra Pradesh in 1926, before systematic digging was taken over by A. H. Longhurst in 1927. He published both in French and English. He is the author of various books such as--Archaeology du Sud de l'Inde Vols 2; Ancient History of the Deccan; Iconography of Southern A Critical Study; The Pallavas and Pallava Antiquities.
