About the Book:-This short book of 159 pages recounts the journey of the author from Srinagar into Ladakh via the Zojila pass. Further more, after reaching Leh she goes up the Nubra Valley. It is a descriptive book with 21 excellent pen and ink illustrations. Throughot the book is peppered with numerous anecdotes and are presented in a lighter vein. The last 2 chapters are devoted to the customs and manners of the inhabitants and to the geographical and natural features of the land. About the Author :-Isabella Lucy Bird, married name Bishop FRGS was a nineteenth-century British explorer, writer, photographer, and naturalist. With Fanny Jane Butler she founded the John Bishop Memorial hospital in Srinagar. She was the first woman to be elected Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. Bird was outspoken from an early age. When six years old, she confronted the local MP for South Cheshire, Sir Malpas de Grey Tatton Egerton, while he was campaigning, asking him "did you tell my father my sister was so pretty because you wanted his vote?"Featured in journals and magazines for decades, Bird was by now something of a household name. Her final great journey took place in 1897, when she travelled up the Yangtze and Han rivers in China and Korea, respectively. Later still, she went to Morocco, where she travelled among the Berbers and had to use a ladder to mount her black stallion, a gift from the Sultan The Title 'Among The Tibetans written/authored/edited by Isabella L.
