ABOUT THE BOOK -This book titled Ambedkar, Dalits and Social Change is a collection of some of my already published and a few unpublishedessays. These articles talk about how Ambedkar has impacted Dalits and their assertiveness for human rights and dignity.Lead by Ambedkar’s ideas and thoughts, the Dalits are asserting for their rights and better their life. Because of their insistence for human rights and dignity, societal changes have taken place and are still ongoing in the wider context in India. This also impacts the life of upper caste, as they are bound to accept the Dalits as equal. Some of these changes are visible and while some are still in the process.All the articles are about the societal changes,describing the kind of transformationsthat are taking place and if the changes are related to each other ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Nandu Ram (born on 28th July, 1946), retired as a Professor of Sociology, from Centre for the Study of Social Systems, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi (India). Besides a number of books, he has also published a number of research papers in Indian and foreign journals and contributed articles in several books, along with participating in numerous national and international seminars and conferences. His major areas of specialisations include Sociology of Urban Life, Social Stratification and Mobility, Ethnic Groups, Marginals and Weaker Sections of the society. His other published books are The Mobile Scheduled Castes: Rise of a New Middle Class (1988) and Beyond Ambedkar (1995), etc. 1.
