About the Book :- The book is an account of travelogue and was first published in London in 1840. It contains 12 chapters and has 20 illustrations including maps showing the route tables by the author. It covers Ghuzni, Kabul, Afghanistan and includes information about Rajput Singhs. The author has preserved the fine illustrations from drawings which he did on his own on the spot. The important events which have lately taken place in Afghanistan determined him to publish his Travels in that country, in a first and separate volume; and to reserve, for a subsequent work, those parts of his manuscript which relate to Kashmir, Great and Little Tibet, the mountain-banks of the Indus, and Alpine India north of the Punjab. He has made his remarks without the smallest regard to party considerations. He has only to add, that he has generally followed the latest and most approved method of spelling Asiatic names and words, by the substitution of Italian for English double vowels. The book is good and worth reading. About the Author :- Godfrey Thomas Vigne was an English amateur cricketer and traveller. Vigne left England for Persia in 1831, and then travelled to India. He spent the next seven years travelling in north west India and Central Asia. Between 1835 and 1838 he travelled extensively in Kashmir and Ladakh and was the first European known to have visited Baltistan. He was the first to describe Nanga Parbat. In 1836 Vigne visited Afghanistan, and met the emir, Dost Mohammed. He was said to be the first Englishman to have visited Kabul. After 1852 Vigne travelled in Mexico, Nicaragua, the West Indies and the United States. He published several books describing his travels.
