About the Book:-Within the ambit of this classic work, the author has endevoured to provide as much of Pali grammar with exercises as should be sufficient for beginners. His intention has been not to write a complete treatise on grammar in all its ramifications but to present its salient points in the simplest garb possible. He has thus thought it to his main purpose to skip over many things which would only puzzle the beginner and which should find a place only in a grammatical treatise. For it is his belief that it is a sounder plan to restrict the beginner to the important features of grammar than to make him stray over a wider field with less point. He hopes that this little book will be of some use to beginners. If properly studied it should furnish a good step forward towards surmounting the intricacies of higher grammar. About the Author:-Pe Maung Tin was a scholar of Pali and Buddhism and educator in Myanmar, formerly Burma. He learnt the basic Buddhist texts at a local private school before he went to Rangoon Government High School where he won a scholarship at age 14. He was called "M.A. Maung Tin" or "Pali Maung Tin" because of his knowledge of Buddhism. He obtained his Bachelor of Letters (B. Litt.) degree from Oxford University in 1922. He had also visited Paris for further studies (1920–21), and was invited back to lecture on Asian literature in 1936. He was a prodigious writer, and his works, such as a Burmese grammar (1951–1955), selections of Burmese prose, a history of Burmese literature (1938), and the Visuddhimagga, are still used as references.
