About the Book:-In commencing this work, the author aimed at nothing more than to shew the Sindhi significance of the English words. This work does not profess to give all the Sindhi, or Sindhified, synonyms in use in the country; it shews only those most common, and generally understood. The Sindhi, like the Hindoostani, borrows from the Arabic, the Persian, and the Sanskrit, to an extent only limited by the learning and fancy of the writer. It would have rendered the work confused and difficult to add all such words to it. Such of them have been given, as are in common use, and also all pure Sindhi words, that he has been able to meet with. He would note that there are many words in use in Lower Sindh, which is not known in the northern, parts of the province, and vice versa. Different classes too favor different terms- -the Hindoos using many Sanskrit words unknown to the Musalmans, and the Musalmans many Arabic vocables spoken only among themselves. For this reason he has tried to put first in place the synonyms best known generally and these will often be found to be words used in Hindostani. This is very unique dictionary, very old and usually not easily available even in India its birth place to make it available and carry in stock is the great service towards readers and re-searchers. It is in nice original form. It is needless to write about its value and uniqueness. About the Author:-Captain George Stack was an author and linguist. He came to India in 1843.
